Alion, first produced in 1991, is made entirely from Tempranillo (Tinto Fino), primarily from the Ribera del Duero region. It represents a more modern style for Vega Sicilia, but it is produced within the same philosophy of quality and terroir as their other wines. The 1995 Vega Sicilia Alion is an outstanding example of Tempranillo from Ribera del Duero, a wine that has matured beautifully. Deep, intense aromas of dark cherry, plum, and tobacco give way to earthy notes and a subtle hint of leather. The palate is full-bodied and structured, with rich layers of black fruit, dried herbs, and spices. The oak is well-integrated, adding complexity without overpowering the wine. Fine tannins and balanced acidity lead to a long, elegant finish, showcasing the remarkable ageing potential of this vintage.
