Château Ausone sits in the highest possible quality tier in Saint-Emilion - Premier Grand Cru Classé ‘A’. The vineyards are a mixture of sand, clay and limestone and total around 17 acres, split 50/50 with plantings of Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Annual production is relatively small, around 2,000 cases only for the Grand Vin. 2000 was a legendary vintage in Bordeaux, with many comparisons made to the much lauded 1990 vintage a decade earlier. Both right and left bank properties produced excellent wines with Ausone being no exception. Robert Parker described Ausone 2000 as “by far the best Cheval Blanc since 1990 and before 2009”.
