Barolo Colonnello Aldo Conterno 1998
Barolo Colonnello Aldo Conterno 1998 is a dry, full-bodied red from Nebbiolo (Barolo, Italy), in the full, structured reds style. Tannins are very firm and acidity very high; oak influence is little. Those scales describe the wine when young; this is a 28-year-old bottle and its tannin and oak will have softened. Good with beef stew, mushroom risotto, steak, lamb.

A historic name in Italian wine, the Conterno family has been making wine in Monforte since at least the 1700s. The family`s vineyards are situated on the hill of Bussia in Monforte d`Alba. This is 100% Nebbiolo sourced from the `Colonnello` vineyard. The 1998 vintage is described by Robert Parker`s Wine Advocate as follows, `Textured, powerful, and concentrated is the 1998 Barolo Colonnello. Offering aromas and flavors of roasted coffee, new saddle leather, black cherry jam, underbrush, earth, and spice box, this tightly-structured, full-bodied, dense, impressively-extracted wine needs cellaring.`
