Robert Groffier is one of Chambolle-Musigny`s most respected names, and this Bonnes Mares comes from vines on the Chambolle side of the Grand Cru, where the wine gains extra perfume alongside its natural power. 1998 was an uneven year generally, but the best Côte de Nuits reds like this one have turned out structured and long-lived. Deep garnet in colour, with dark cherry, violet, forest floor, savoury and a hint of liquorice, the palate is firm, mineral and built for the table, especially game or beef.
