Merchant's description

Cellar for up to 10 years. Decanting is optional, up to 30 minutes before serving. With a family history of grape-growing going back as far as 1529, Jean-Jacques and his son Victor (Domaine Jean-Jacques Girard’s incumbent winemakers), have a treasure trove of generational knowledge and tradition to draw from. This can be seen and tasted in their incredible range of Burgundy wines, sourced from select vineyard plots in Savigny-Les-Beaune, Pommard, Volnay and Corton-Charlemagne. This 100% Pinot Noir wine is a perfect introduction to the fine craftsmanship of Domaine Jean-Jacques Girard, as well as an overall excellent, easy-drinking Burgundy red. It’s a gorgeous cherry red in the glass, bursting with layered scents of plum, raspberry and dark red cherry. There is a classic Pinot Noir funkiness to this wine, similar to a barnyard or an earthy forest floor. The palate is equal parts tart and silky, enveloping the tongue in red and black fruit flavours, with subtle hints of cassis, spice, mushroom and leather. Although it bears the broader name of “Bourgogne”, this wine is reminiscent of Savigny, where Domaine Jean-Jacques Girard makes its home. It’s a fantastic introduction to the winery before you begin deep-diving into the Premier Crus. Consider pairing it with barbecued meats, poultry, or traditional Burgundy dishes, such as parsleyed ham.
