Dominus 1997 is a full-bodied Napa Bordeaux blend from the Dominus Estate in Yountville, California. Dominus was established by Christian Mouiex of Chateau Petrus in 1981, sourcing fruit from the dryfarmed Napanook vineyard – a site famous for producing some of the best Napa wines of the 1940s and 1950s. Dominus is also the name of the flagship wine of the estate, a seamlessly elegant blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. The exact blend in 1997 was 86.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc and 4.5% Merlot. "Deep berry, cinnamon, briar and mint aromas. Firm, even backwards, it is trim and elegant, yet solid. Black fruit and bitter-chocolate flavours abound. The finish is especially tight, with dry tannins and complex mineral and earth elements. Huge but refined, the quintessential iron fist in a velvet glove; it needs time." Wine Enthusiast, 2000
