Merchant's description

Located between Castellina and Panzano in the heart of Chianti Classico, Nittardi has a rich history, first recorded as “Nectar Dei” in 1183. In the 16th century, it was owned by Michelangelo Buonarroti, who famously sent his wine as a “genuine gift” to the Pope in Rome. Casanuova di Nittardi is a pure Sangiovese from the “Vigna Doghessa” single vineyard in Castellina in Chianti (Siena). Situated on a southeast-facing slope at 450 meters (1,500 ft), the vineyard’s limestone and schist soils bring freshness and elegance to the wine. Certified organic, all Nittardi vineyards are farmed sustainably.
