Opus One was established through a collaboration between Baron Philippe de Rothschild, renowned for Château Mouton Rothschild, and California’s pioneer Robert Mondavi. By uniting the rich winemaking traditions and innovative practices of both families, their shared mission was to craft an extraordinary wine in the heart of Napa Valley. The 1996 vintage is a blend composed of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc, 3% Merlot, and 3% Malbec, aged for 19 months in new French oak. Revealing delicate notes of violets and mint on the nose, the wine displays intense notes of blackberry, chocolate, and roasted coffee. Its smooth texture and deep, velvety flavours are well-supported by a firm structure and a refined mid-palate.
