Opus One is the wine that made Napa take a bow on the world stage. Born from the partnership of Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild in 1979, it was conceived as a Californian answer to the great Médoc blends — and the 2015 vintage is a convincing argument that the ambition was well-placed. The growing season was warm, dry, and beautifully even (that word earns its place here), producing a wine of unusual concentration and structural grace. It's a Cabernet-dominant blend with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and a whisper of Malbec rounding out the frame.
