Romanee Conti DRC 1995
Romanee Conti DRC 1995 is a dry, light-bodied red from Pinot Noir (Vosne-Romanée grand cru, France), in the light, fresh reds style. Tannins are soft and acidity fresh; oak influence is some. Those scales describe the wine when young; this is a 31-year-old bottle and its tannin and oak will have softened. Good with cheese board, duck, salmon, roast chicken.

Romanée-Conti is the most celebrated vineyard in Burgundy, a tiny 1.8ha Vosne-Romanée grand cru producing minute quantities of Pinot Noir prized for its perfume and silky texture. The 1995 vintage is a good, structured year, now well developed, so expect a garnet colour, with aromas of dried rose, redcurrant, forest floor and spice. The palate is refined and savoury, with fine, resolved tannins and real length. A once-in-a-lifetime bottle for serious collectors, best enjoyed with roast partridge or mature Burgundian cheese.
