Fresh, elegant and beautifully balanced, the Domaine Saumaize-Michelin Saint-Véran 2021 is a lovely expression of Chardonnay from the southern Mâconnais. Floral and lightly mineral on the nose, it shows ripe citrus, pear and white peach, with a subtle creamy note from its time in oak. The palate is bright and nicely textured, combining generous fruit with lively acidity and a gently saline finish. "Tasting the range earlier this month I was shocked by how well they stood up to the Cote d'Or, outshining even the odd Puligny 1er Cru." Tom Harrow, Head Wine Guru The domaine blends fruit from two parcels—one on marl and the other on hard limestone—and divides the élevage between tank and barrel, giving the wine both freshness and depth. A refined, food-friendly Burgundy that works beautifully with roast chicken, grilled fish, shellfish or creamy mushroom dishes.
