Alzero 1989 is a Cabernet-led IGT Veronese from the legendary Giuseppe Quintarelli in Negrar, Veneto, made using the appassimento technique. The blend comprises 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Cabernet Franc and 20% Merlot, with grapes harvested early in September to maintain acidity before drying on rush mats for several months. Following a mid-December pressing, the wine underwent a slow, 50-day fermentation with indigenous yeasts before spending several years in French barrels and later in large Slavonian oak. This 1989 release is a masterclass in concentration, offering a balsamic depth, dried figs and exotic spices. Its immense textural density and integrated residual sugar create a profile that defies conventional Cabernet expectations.
